Lest I be misunderstood...

My friend Jake makes me think that the following post can easily be misunderstood as suggesting that liberals can calm down now about "moral values" and the need for a renewed conversation about religion on the left. Far from it! I've dashed off a clarification. As always, thanks for your comments!

What?! What are you trying to make me do?!THINK?!

You telling me that I need to actually READ the posts before spouting off with some high-flying, mouthy response?! You mean, I actually need to READ what's in there before issuing forth my righteous indignation?! To UNDERSTAND these articles?! Hell no!

No thank you, Mr. Yankee. Mr. Smart-man. No thank you one bit. Frankly, I ain't got the time nor the inkling. I mean, think about it: if I sit down here and READ the post first--I mean if I spent the time to go beyond the headline--how on earth could I ever keep up any semblance of a no-bull, take-no-prisoners cocksure tone? Answer: I couldn't. This "careful reading" and "understanding" everybody's so hot on end up only leading a body down the path of carefully thought-out, nuanced opinion. In other words, "Yankee-thinking." Well, no-sir. I won't have it. Not for me. As for me, I'll take the NOT-reading and the MIS-understanding. THAT's where your moral fire is, friend. In the not-thinking part. All right? All right. Time to rock the baby back to sleep.

Chagrined,
Jake
