Fresh coffee coming up!

by Chris Walton

Whew, with General Assembly, the wrap-up of another church year, and a big holiday weekend, you might not have noticed that another month began here at Coffee Hour. Have no fear: We on the Coffee Hour Committee are brewing up a fresh pot of conversation, which we'll pour shortly.

In the meantime, two things: Remember that you can always propose new topics in the coffee grinder. And, while the committee meets, why not treat this post as an open conversation thread?

Does your congregation shift gears for the summer like so many do, turning from "worship services" to a "summer forum"? Or does your congregation keep right on going? What were the high points of the last church year? Low points? Things you can't wait to try next year?

I know you have all moved on to other topics but I would like to say a few words about summer services.
Have any other people, especially those involved in membership, heard of this situation? People who visit their first Unitarian Universalist congregation while on vacation. Why? Because they didn't want to be recognized in their home town until they knew more about us or they were afraid of prosletizing follow ups if they went to a local church. I know we don't prosletize but new people do not know this. So visiting an out of town fellowship is safer. For this reason I wish more of our UU Societies would consider having services in the summer. I think we miss an oportunity to spread the good news about Unitarian Universalism.
I usually travel in the summer and I am very disapointed when I find all the UU congregations in a particular area closed for the season.
For those of you who travel to warmer places in the winter may I mention my own local fellowship Http://wwwUUPuertoRico.org We love to see new faces!
