New will go live Monday, April 2.

A notice on the front page of the Unitarian Universalist Association's website announces that a "brand new is set to make its debut on the afternoon of April 2, 2007." (There's no permalink to the announcement, but it's likely that most links will change in three weeks anyway.) You'll see a small screen shot of the new homepage, which will take a radically different approach than the current site.

The new site won't affect, but InterConnections, the other publication produced by the Periodicals office, will be migrating to the new site. Here's the PowerPoint presentation about the new site (11.1M) that webmaster Julie Albanese shared last summer at the sparsely attended General Assembly workshop she and I led. I had a small role early on as part of the team that helped develop the information architecture for the new site, but Julie and her colleagues in the Office of Electronic Communication have led the herculean task of redesigning and converting countless pages of content on

Can't happen too soon.

The current site isn't attractive--and it's been a real annoyance for those of us who frequently try to find information there.

The new version at least IS attractive.

It is impossible right now to fully evaluate the new map and the navigation system for the site, but one of the things that I am not finding in the screenshots available is easy access to the international area, which in the current website is buried under a sub-submenu of the "About Us" menu choice. Any idea about where it will be from now on?

This is great news. And Herculean certainly is the right word. Last I heard it was not only a redesign, but integrating a content management system in -- at what -- 10,000 plus pages? I've done very large redesigns, but never of this magnitude. So I'm sending lots of good thoughts to Julie, Kasey, Deb and whoever else is working on it. Having worked elbow-to-elbow (literally) with them at many a GA I know first-hand they are a fabulous and dedicated team. We are so lucky to have them.

Jaume, I don't know where information related to the UUA's international partners will live. It's possible that some international info will be presented in several different areas of the site. Check in with Cathy Cordes about this.

Anna Belle, yes, the redesign is focused on implementing a content-management system and a user-oriented navigation scheme (rather than the old department-oriented scheme). Julie, Kasey, and Deb have been training content authors in every staff group to migrate their content into the new page templates.

The new is live. Unfortunately, InterConnections articles and many other elements of the Leadership Library appear not to have been pushed live, so for the next little while you'll need to look at the backup site for the InterConnections Archives and InterConnections Resources.
