Looking high and low for influential UUs.
The indefatigable Chutney is pondering influence — and wants you to vote for the most influential living Unitarian Universalist. (I think it would be interesting to sort out how each of the candidates identifies with Unitarian Universalism, but try not to get lost in the nuance just this once.)

Well speaking of low voter turnout, and low votes. . . I couldn't help but notice that not a single U*U voted for Philocrites aka Chris Walton or indeed UUA President Bill Sinkford as the most influential U*U.

I noticed this, too, Chris. Wny didn't you vote for one of them?! =) But seriously, if it had been restricted to influence among UUs, you and Rev Sinkford would have been tops on my list. But even my 75 year old Catholic grandmother uses iTunes, eBay, email and Google, and she loves Sweet Honey in the Rock, so I had to cast my votes for others.
In this day and age, it's all about the Internet and celebrity bling-bling!

Hafidha, that's not Philocrites, it's a troll trying to fool you. Look again.

Hmm - that was strange. I thought it said Philocrites, and didn't notice it said Robin Edgar. But it does make more sense that Philo didn't have written that himself. I wondered about that.

Robin Edgar posted a comment under the name "Philocritic," but I've replaced that deceptive user ID with his name. I've barred Robin from posting comments to this blog because he routinely violated web etiquette in a persistent self-aggrandizement campaign. When he posts a comment, I delete it. I'd delete this one, too, but two other readers have already responded. (Here's my comments policy, if you need a refresher.)
I could propose many many living Unitarian Universalists who are considerably more "influential" than I am, although it's kind of flattering that someone thought to nominate me. I voted for Matt Groenig.

Or Rev. Bill Schultz. After being president of the UUA and then heading up Amnesty International for what... 12 years?

I had no idea that Matt Groening or Keith Olbermann were UUs. What's their connection? Do they actually hold membership at a church?

I've heard rumors to the effect that Groening grew up in a Unitarian church and that Olbermann is/was a UU, but I'm in no position to vouch for either one. Ask Chutney!
