Come rain or heavy rain, picnic is today!

Prove your mettle, Boston-area UU bloggers and readers! Don't let a little rain keep you penned up in your homes! Put on your raincoat, grab your umbrella, and paddle your canoe down to Milton for the second annual Unitarian Universalist Bloggers Picnic. The picnic starts at noon at the First Parish in Milton. Bring some food to share. Years from now, you'll be able to say that you weathered the Storm of Ought-Six with a dollop of Philocrites' potato salad, and people will look at you in awe.

It is a good day to be one with the blowing clover and the falling rain.

YOU made that potato salad, Chris? It was very good! And mustardy!

Thanks for the fun, everyone! It was especially wonderful to finally meet Baby Desmond and to be assured that the Unity Family made contributed a third totally adorable boy to the planet. Thanks, Unitys!

Yes, the potato salad was my attempt to recreate the perfection that is Mrs Philocrites' mother's mother's recipe. The secret is that you add 1/3 cup cider vinegar mixed with 1 tsp sugar to the potatoes while they're still hot. That's what gives the salad that mustardy flavor. I didn't use quite enough potatoes, though, so it was just a bit more vinegary than I intended.

It was YUMMY! The best thing about potato salad is that you can have a plate of it for lunch and still tell yourself that you had salad for lunch.

As opposed to two cheeseburgers, thousands of potato chips, potato salad, green salad, asparagus with proscuitto and other random things I stuffed into my face.

I was all set to come in here and gloat about the weather in New South Wales -- but then it went and rained for the first time in the month and a half I've been down here.

Stentor, how did I miss the fact that you've gone to the other end of the earth? It's late fall there! How dare you gloat. ;)
